Starry Night
Tricia Dawn Williams, piano
Concert Hall of the Malta Society of Arts,
Palazzo de La Salle, 219, Republic Street, La Valette, Malte
This concert presents a captivating fusion of French and Maltese contemporary compositions, highlighting the unique timbres of both the piano and toy piano. The program opens with Erik Satie’s surrealist ballet score Parade, arranged by Ruben Zahra for piano and toy piano, blending whimsy with modernity. Pierre-Adrien Charpy’s Suite Caféinée offers a lively exploration of caffeinated energy, contrasting sharply with Veronique Vella’s W.A.R. – When Angels Rest, a poignant reflection on peace and conflict.
Nicolas Bacri’s Tenebrae draws listeners into a meditative soundscape, evoking the shadows of Holy Week. Régis Campo’s Starry Night paints an aural picture of the night sky, brimming with color and imagination. The recital closes with Ruben Zahra’s Pan the Goat-God, a mythological journey through the wild, capturing the rustic and mysterious essence of the ancient deity. This program offers a rich, diverse exploration of contemporary piano music.
This concert is supported by the French Embassy in Malta. Entrance is free but seats still need to be booked. Donation at the door and all proceeds will go to The Migrant Women Association Malta.

"The evening ended with Starry Night, a creation composed, at the instigation of the Auvers sur Oise Festival, by the Frenchman Régis Campo for the pianist Fazil Say. A short piece inspired by Bach and the Van Gogh of La Nuit Étoilée, each note representing a star, each star, a disappeared and loved person. The musician deploys myriads of aerial sonorities, each more subtle than the other."

“La soirée s’est terminée avec Starry Night, une création composée, à l’instigation du Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, par le Français Régis Campo à l’intention du pianiste Fazil Say. Une courte pièce inspirée de Bach et du Van Gogh de La Nuit Étoilée, chaque note figurant une étoile, chaque étoile, une personne disparue et aimée. Le musicien y déploie des myriades de sonorités aériennes, plus subtiles les unes que les autres.”
